Norton had entered the 1930's with two Moore designed overhead camshaft models, the 490cc CS1 and the 350cc CJ, however, in 1931 Moore left and his replacement Arthur Carroll, took the opportunity to redesign the engine. The revised designs quickly established themselves in both competition and on the road. The CS1 and CJ were joined in 1932 by a new model offered in two capacities intended solely for competition, the International. Using the redesigned engine and a four speed gearbox they were initially offered without lights, a mag-dyno being listed as an option, in theory quick road riders would order a CS1 or CJ, the reality was that they ordered an Inter with the optional lighting kit.
This immaculate example of the 500cc Model 30 International dates from 1934 was restored to a high standard by a former owner. According to details received from the previous owner the machine was completely refinished in the correct black and silver livery, new chrome rims with stainless spokes were fitted to the hubs which had benefited from new bearings. The brakes have been renewed and new tyres and tubes fitted. The transmission has received a new clutch, primary and final drive chains. A new Stewart Rogers oil tank and pump have been installed. The magneto was rewound by RTW and the tank was resealed. The carburettor has been fitted with a new slide and jets. It is offered with a quantity of receipts for the work carried out, an NMCC dating letter and V5 registration document. The MOT and road fund licence have recently expired and the vendor informs us that this lovely example runs and rides beautifully.
