This 300SL first left the Mercedes works in 1986 in specially requested grey metallic, nearly black gun metal with mushroom leather and cruise control. It now also has a stereo radio/CD and an alarm/immobiliser.
The owners have owned their roadster with benefit of both hood and hardtop for the past eight years. It was in the previous keeper's hands for six years before that. For the past 14 years, they say, it has always been serviced by a Mercedes-Benz specialist and a main dealer before that, the service records are with the car.
More recently, the 3-litre 6-cylinder engine was in receipt of an overhaul at 103,000 miles. The exhaust was replaced 2000. The car was converted to dual-fuel operation with petrol and/or super-economy LPG capability and soft top renewed 2001. The wheels were refettled, rear tyres renewed and interior refurbished and Connollised 2002. A new battery was fitted 2003.
Current condition of the metallic grey painted bodywork is described as being good, mushroom leather excellent and, thanks to there always being added carpets protecting the factory carpets, original carpets very good. The engine is reportedly in very good order and the 4-speed automatic transmission good. The current 140,121 mileage displayed when entered for this sale is reckoned to be the genuine total from new. The car is taxed until February and the MOT is current until next August.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
