MV Agusta had introduced their first production scooter during 1949 at the Milan Trade Fair. Typed the model "B" the new machine employed similar construction principals to the rival Vespa with a monocoque, pressed steel body housing the 125cc two stroke engine. This machine was followed in 1950 by the model C or CSL, standing for "C" Super Lusso. The new machine employed a tubular frame with pressed steel bodywork, as with the previous model the power unit was mounted in front of the engine with the drive being taken to the rear wheel by a chain. The bodywork incorporated a channel which funneled air to the engine to aid cooling. A second scooter was introduced during 1950, derived from the CSL with which it shared the frame, front bodywork and engine, the new model was initially known as the Popolare, then Normale before MV finally settled on "C"GT standing for "C" Gran Turismo as its title. Intended as a more affordable alternative to the CSL the CGT dispensed with the rear bodywork in the interests of cost replacing it with a fuel tank and pannier resulting in the machine being offered for 175,000 Lire.
The example offered has formed part of a private UK collection for a number of years having been purchased in Italy. It is believed to be the only one of its type in the UK. Presented in totally original, unrestored condition it is an ideal candidate for preservation rather than restoration. Rare in its native country it would make an excellent addition to any scooter or MV Agusta collection.
