Daimler versions of the immortal Jaguar MKII were readily distinguishable by the heavily fluted tops of their chrome radiator grilles and, of course, the lack of 'leaping cat' bonnet mascot found on their Jaguar siblings. They took their name from the engine that powered them - a lightweight, eight cylinder unit of 2,548cc designed by Edward Turner. Manufacture continued until production of all MKII derivatives ceased in 1969, by which time some 17,620 V8-250s had been made.
This smartly-presented 1968 V8 is finished in Maroon, teamed with a Cherry Red leather interior. It started life with automatic transmission but was converted to manual (with overdrive) in the 1970s. It has apparently spent the last decade proudly ferrying brides to and from church, during which time it has been treated to extensive body repairs, reconditioning of the woodwork, refurbished cylinder heads, electronic ignition, an inline fuel converter (that permits it to run on unleaded fuel), a new fuel tank and partial replacement of the exhaust system - work for which there are many thousands of pounds worth of receipts. A star of the first episode of the TV series 'Lewis', 'KEX 129' is now being sold complete with detailed history, original log book and nearly every old MOT; which between them evidently confirm the displayed mileage of c.90,000.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
