Lot details Registration No: XYC957M Chassis No: 9115301563 Mot Expiry: March 2010
This 911, in the evocative Gulf racing colours of the '70s, is a UK supplied right hand drive 911T which was first registered in October 1973 being one of the last of the F-series 'long bonnet' cars. It has been much modified for historic rallying / racing but retains the original narrow arch shell. It comes with an MSA Historic Vehicle Identity Form as well as V5C and full MOT.
It competed on the Tour Britannia in 2006, co-driven by multiple Historic race and rally winner Adam Wiseberg and former Rootes and Chrysler works driver and 1974 National Group 1 rally champion, Robin Eyre-Maunsell. They ran in 3rd place overall, posting consistent top 5 stage times (including 2 second places) until a differential failure led to retirement at Cadwell Park. Running again in 2007 with the car in almost identical specification, they achieved top 10 times on most stages, with a best of 4th at Belvoir Castle, beating many much more powerful entries.
The car has had over £46,000 spent (history file supplied) to bring it to its current condition. An almost standard 3 litre (SC) engine running on Weber carburettors with modified exhaust headers produces around 230 bhp. A close ratio 915 gearbox built by Konrad Motorsport in Germany gives speeds in the gears (in km/h) of 55, 96, 139, 182 and 220. The rev drop when changing at 6,800 rpm is 2700 1st to 2nd, 2300 2nd to 3rd, 1700 3rd to 4th and 1000 4th to 5th. The engine is very torquey and the car is perfectly suited for racing, rallying, race tours or track days.
Specification includes, full bolt-in cage, Sparco seats, Titan four point belts (valid until Dec 2011), Sabelt quick release steering wheel, navigator's footrest, intercom, Brantz trip meter, plumbed-in extinguisher, electronic gear change indicator, quick shift kit, lightweight carpet set, front strut brace, cockpit adjustable brake balance, competition paddle clutch, hydraulic tensioners, Bilsteins (revalved), 3.3 Turbo rear torsion bars and 2.7 RS fronts, 4 pot front callipers, uprated rear callipers, full undershields (front and rear), plus lightweight tank guard for Race Tour use, front wheel arch mounted oil cooler, 3 sets of wheels and 11 tyres.
Not to be confused with a chopped around shell, or an evocation based on a much later galvanised shell, this is a genuine 1973 car which is comfortably as quick as any standard 2.7 RS at a fraction of the price and at a significant discount to its build cost.
