Lot details Registration No: LPX805D Chassis No: 120153DN Mot Expiry: Dec 2005
Introduced in 1959, the MKII has long been Jaguar's best-loved saloon. Its combination of svelte good looks, strong performance and gentlemen's club interior has successfully charmed every passing generation. Based around a more sophisticated version of its MKI predecessor's monocoque it featured independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension and a leaf-sprung, 'live' rear axle. With plentiful power courtesy of the race-proven XK, dohc straight six, all MKIIs were fitted with four-wheel disc brakes.
Finished in red with black leather upholstery, this particular example is variously rated by the vendor as being in fair-to-good (paintwork), good (bodywork, interior trim), very good (manual / overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment, wheels / tyres) or excellent (chassis, engine) condition. Originally built by Jaguar as a right-hand drive 2.4 litre manual before apparently being registered with West Sussex County Council in 1966, it has since been "converted to full 3.8 litre specification". Said to "drive beautifully", it boasts a "a steering rack conversion" together with all-round "uprated brakes and suspension" (while, a Kenlowe fan and alternator are further concessions to modern motoring). Riding on wire wheels, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until December 2005 and historic class (free) road tax until December 2005.
