Lot details Registration No: YSU 464 Chassis No: BN4L074293 Mot Expiry: Aug 2007
Introduced in 1956, the 100/6 was intended to broaden the Big Healey's appeal. Thus, it boasted a more spacious 2+2 seater cabin and six-cylinder refinement courtesy of BMC's 2.6litre C-series unit. Distinctive 'crinkle' grille and bonnet scoop aside, it shared the same wonderful Gerry Coker penned styling as its predecessor. Though, an increase in wheelbase from 7'6" to 7'8" meant that the newcomer was a fraction longer. Equipped with independent coil-and-wishbone front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and hydraulic four-wheel drum brakes, the 100/6 could be had in first BN4 (2+2) and later BN6 (2-seater) guises - the arrival of the latter variant ushering in a new 'straight-port' cylinder head which brought welcome extra performance. Superseded by the 3000 in 1959, the 100/6 nevertheless set the template for all future Big Healeys.
Finished in Ice Blue over Old English White with blue leather upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "sound" (2912cc engine, chassis, bodywork), "good" (paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "very good" (interior trim) condition. Apparently upgraded with an Austin-Healey 3000-type powerplant and centre-change four-speed manual gearbox (including overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears), 'YSU 464' is said to have been "imported from America in 1990" before being converted to right-hand drive. Reportedly the subject of a "recent brake overhaul and major service", it is also understood to benefit from "two fresh Firestone tyres, a new hood and very good tonneau cover". Stated to show "good oil pressure" and to suffer from the "usual noisy first gear", it is felt to be cosmetically presentable "but not to show standard". Although in possession of a MOT certificate valid until October 2006, we are informed that 'YSU 464' "will be retested prior to the auction". Reputed to have had just "two owners since 1990", this appealing hybrid Healey is offered for sale with history file (receipts, old MOTs etc) and historic class (free) road tax until March 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle now has an MOT until August 2007.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
