Renault, whose Paris taxis had famously provided rapid transport for the troops to be able to boost numbers on the front line during WW1, enjoyed boom times in peacetime during the early 1920s. This was their Belle Époque, and their production facilities at the main Billancourt works in Paris and on the nearby Isle de Seguin on the Seine were expanded dramatically to cope with the postwar demand for private motor cars.
In 1922, Renault took on their main Citroen 5CV and Peugeot Quadrilette competition in the increasingly popular small car sector with the 950cc KJ which was rated as being 6CV. By 1925, front-wheel brakes had been employed for what had become the MT, whilst from 1926 until 1929 the wheelbase had been lengthened and 4-seater open or closed bodies were offered on the NN as offered here today.
The vendor tells us that his Renault being auctioned here was built in 1926 and totally restored in 1997, the car with the marque's famous coal scuttle bonnet line very much in evidence being a charming example of the French saloon with lovely interior and good body and chassis. The owner tells us that the 750cc 4-cylinder engine and the mechanics are sound and that the car is a real pleasure to drive. The interior is upholstered in corduroy and features some delightful period trim features.
Please note: We have not had this vehicle running.
