Lot details Registration No: GVS 290 Chassis No: H-BN7-L/10174 Mot Expiry: June 2006
A significant step in terms of 'Big Healey' evolution and foundation block for one of the 1960s' most charismatic rally cars, the 3000 MKI was introduced in March 1959. Capable of nearly 120mph, it was powered by an enlarged 2912cc version of the BMC C-Series straight six engine that developed some 124bhp and 167lbft of torque. Although, equipped with a similar chassis design to its 100/6 forebear, the new model enjoyed notably better braking thanks to the adoption of Girling front discs. Fitted with wire wheels and adjustable front seats as standard, it was available in two-seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) guises.
Reportedly supplied new to California, this particular example has been in the current ownership for approximately twelve years. Converted to right-hand drive as part of an extensive restoration using either "new or reconditioned parts", it was also treated to a brake system overhaul (discs, pipes), suspension refurbishment (bearings, rubber bushes, springs), engine rebuild, replacement wiring loom, gearbox / overdrive refit and new differential bearings etc. While, cosmetically it benefited from re-trimming (interior, hood, tonneau, sidescreens), re-chroming (new bumpers / over riders) and a bare metal respray. Finished in Colorado red over Old English White with grey leather upholstery, it is described by the vendor as being in excellent overall condition. Said to have covered less than 11,000 miles since work was completed, it had new rear springs, a stainless steel exhaust and a complete set of shock absorbers installed some twelve months ago. Riding on 72-spoke chrome wire wheels shod with fresh tyres, it is offered for sale with MOT and historic class (free) road tax both valid until June 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
