Lot details Registration No: GUW714N Chassis No: GHN5-356774G Mot Expiry: Sept 2012
Introduced in 1962, the MG B Roadster enjoyed an 18-year production run. With nicely balanced handling and a good turn of speed, it merited the old MG marketing slogan 'Safety Fast'. Based around a monocoque chassis featuring independent coil-sprung front suspension and a leaf-sprung 'live' rear axle, its 1798cc B-series four-cylinder engine was allied to four-speed manual transmission. Capable of over 100mph (especially if specified with overdrive), the provision of disc/drum brakes and rack and pinion steering greatly aided control. Today, it enjoys a very strong following and with its GT sister has spawned a dedicated support industry making it among the most practical and cost effective of all classic cars.
According to its accompanying 'Passport to Service', this particular example was supplied new by Cantor Motors of the Old Kent Rd, London to David Hollebon of Great Baddow, Essex on 5th December 1974. The same document also contains maintenance stamps up to 32,972 miles. Among the very last 'chrome bumper' roadsters, 'GUW 714N' changed hands within the Hollebon family but has had just two registered keepers. Very sparingly used over the last few decades, the vendor assures us that current odometer display of 36,247 represents the total mileage covered from new. Never allowed to deteriorate to the point of needing restoration, the MG is still finished in its factory livery of Blue with Brown upholstery and a Black vinyl roof. Riding on Rostyle wheels, this wonderfully original low mileage B is offered for sale with original handbook, 'Passport to Service', assorted old MOTs, sundry paperwork and current MOT certificate valid until September 2012.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
