F. Gordon Crosby began his professional career as a draughtsman for Daimler. This is where he first came into contact with Sammy Davis, Ludlow Clayden and a host of others, who he would later work with at one time or another at `The Autocar'. This legendary journal was a pioneer in automotive art & the use of perspective drawings of their mechanical workings. This lifetime partnership resulted in between 300-400 individual works including some of the most valuable automotive art in existence.
This particular piece was completed by him for use on the front cover of the May 10th 1929 issue of `The Autocar'. It features a cream/light green c1928/29 MG 18/80 saloon, with light green wings, driving at speed with four occupants through a rural location. The car depicted is also believed to have belonged to Crosby himself at the time the work was completed. A copy of the May 10th 1929 issue of `The Autocar' is also included, together with a colour copy affixed to the rear of the frame. Highly attractive original artwork, mounted framed & glazed. Approximately 70x85cm
