Lot details Registration No: WHX299G Chassis No: DB6/352R Mot Expiry: 02/09/08
Introduced at the 1965 Motor Show, the Aston Martin DB6 was notable as the first model to be engineered following a factory move from Feltham to Newport Pagnell. Although, it shared the same visage as the outgoing DB5, the newcomer enjoyed notably better high-speed stability and interior space thanks to the provision of a Kamm tail and four-inch longer wheelbase respectively. Grafted over a sheet steel platform chassis, the four-seater's hand-finished aluminium panels helped contribute to a 1,466kg kerb weight. Praised by the contemporary motoring press for its poise and handling, the DB6 employed all-round coil-sprung suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. Powered by the fabulous Tadek Marek designed 3995cc DOHC straight-six engine - which was quoted as developing 282bhp and 280lbft in standard tune - the model could be had with either five-speed manual or automatic transmission. Though, even when fitted with the latter no-cost option, it was reputedly capable of 140mph.
Finished in Steel Grey with matt black leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "excellent" condition with regard to its engine, five-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, undersealed chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly first owned by the Honourable Mark Sidney Agar, 'WHX 299G' is further understood to have spent several years in the Aston Martin collection of a well known German enthusiast. Treated to an extensive engine overhaul whilst there, more recent work has apparently seen it given a bare metal respray (by a reputable marque specialist) and thorough retrim (new black hide upholstery, headlining, Wilton carpets). Further benefiting from a new clutch, replacement Select-a-Ride shock absorbers and fresh stainless steel bumpers, the car still retains its original period radio (complete with electric aerial) and factory-fitted power steering. As one of the last DB6 MKI saloons built, 'WHX 299G' is able to boast more supportive MKII type front seats (recognisable by their built-in headrests). Sporting a Webasto sunroof and nicely detailed engine bay, this stunning Aston Martin is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until September 2008.
