Lot details Registration No: 340 CHY Chassis No: AN53917 Mot Expiry: May 2005
This is acknowledged to be an almost exact copy of a Healey Silverstone, which has been based on and employed many components from an original Silverstone chassis number D24. With 340 CHY registration and AN 53917 chassis number, the car was first registered as an Austin-Healey Sprite. Built 1986-89 with an aluminium body by Doleman of Derby on a new chassis, it was acquired by the vendor in 1989, since when he drove it on the road and on rallies. In 1990, he fitted a racing-spec Riley 2½-litre motor and the car was accepted for circuit events by the VSCC who issued it with a `Blue Form'. Thus equipped, car and driver also competed in the Isle of Man and at the Dundrod Classic in Northern Ireland.
In 1993, the body was taken off the rolling chassis and put on another Silverstone, number D51, and raced all over Europe until 2003. This replica, during this time, was fitted with a Jaguar 3.4 engine and the original body from D51, being enjoyed on the road as well as taking part in some races in the UK - and then, in 2004, both cars were changed back to their former specifications.
The replica now has its well raced original body back on again as well as the original 2443cc four-cylinder engine, which was overhauled with white metal bearings, pistons and rings renewed in 1993, since when it has not been used. The vendor says, however, that the car is in full running order with MOT and tax disc valid until May and April respectively.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
