Lot details Registration No: MBZ 5105 Chassis No: WDV1260 Mot Expiry: July 2006
Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1979, the new W126 S-class was a quantifiable improvement over its W116 predecessor. Lauded by the contemporary motoring press as the 'best car in the world', it was not only lighter than its forebear but also offered an improved ride and sharper handling. Styled by Bruno Sacco, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of powerful all alloy V8 engines (later supplemented by more fuel efficient straight sixes). Still a staple part of many a diplomatic fleet, the W126 remains sought after to this day thanks to its impeccable build quality and timeless lines.
Finished in blue with grey leather upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in good overall condition. Powered by the 2,962cc straight-six engine mated to 'switchable' four-speed automatic transmission, its generous specification includes the following electrically operated 'toys' "heated seats, tilt / slide sunroof, windows, mirrors, steering column plus cruise control". Believed but not warranted to have covered 105,000 miles from new, it is said to have "been used mainly for fast trips to Southern Spain providing excellent comfort, reliability and economy". Sporting the appropriate registration number 'MBZ 5105', this "very sound, rust-free" car is offered for sale with MOT certificate current until July 6th 2006, road tax until 30th November 2005 and "new chrome front bumper section".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
