Lot details Registration No: SMG 288 Chassis No: A1560 Mot Expiry: Dec 2005
With chassis number WO A1560, this very early Healey is the only known example of a custom-bodied Healey two-seater with dickey or, as such features are better known Stateside, rumble seat. Unusually, too, although without separate entry the extra seating can accommodate two adults or, maybe, three children. Additionally, there is a spacious boot.
We understand that following purchase in 1961, SMG 288 was used as a daily driver. In 1970, however, the open two-door bodywork of unknown origin was stripped back to bare aluminium and the panels repainted. Engine work carried out in 1974 included having the big ends' white metal replaced. In 1980 the car was taken off the road and stored for many years.
This very interesting and, as claimed by the entrant, almost certainly likely to be unique right-hand drive Healey has chassis and bodywork which are said to be sound overall. The red paintwork is rated as fair, and both the black interior and the wheels in good condition.
Having been mechanically overhauled with the MOT test last passed in December 2004 and the tyres renewed, the car is said currently to be in good running order. The Riley manufactured 2443cc twin cam four number B320 is reportedly in good order, the four-speed manual gearbox also good with no known problems and the electrical equipment working. Twin fuel pumps are mounted on the firewall, whilst the weather equipment includes removable Perspex side-screens. The current tax disc will be valid until the end of the year.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
