Introduced in 1975, Mercedes-Benz's W123 series cars perpetuated the marque's enviable reputation for engineering integrity. Well built with a sense of solidity missing from today's model range, the W123 cars featured all round independent coil sprung suspension, disc brakes and power steering. Devoid of exterior plastic trim and regarded by some as the last of the 'chrome era' Mercedes, W123s have begun to attract a cult following. Powered by a 2525cc SOHC six-cylinder engine producing some 127bhp and 145lbft of torque and equipped with either manual or four-speed automatic transmission, the 250 models were reputedly capable of 115mph and 0-60mph in 11.3 seconds.
Finished in white with beige upholstery, this particular long wheelbase example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork and paintwork. While, he adds that "The car has remained in the ownership of one family from new. It was purchased from the factory and exported to Zimbabwe where the family was living. It was subsequently imported to the UK when the family returned. We also believe that this particular configuration - a '250' long wheelbase petrol model - was not generally available and is therefore rare in the UK". Apparently riding on "excellent" wheels / tyres, it is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until June 2009.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
