Lot details Registration No: KWE973J Chassis No: 9111100082 Mot Expiry: Feb 2004
Launched in 1964, the evergreen 911 was constantly modified and uprated for more than thirty years. The layout was very similar to that already seen on the preceding 356 with air-cooled engine at the back and torsion bar springing. Macpherson struts were fitted to the front and trailing arms at the rear. The early 1991cc flat six engine produced 130bhp and a 5-speed gearbox from the 904 was fitted. A Targa-top version was also offered, initially with zip-out rear window, though soon equipped with fixed glass rear window. A 4-cylinder 1582cc engine powered a 912 model, which employed the same bodyshell - whilst, from 1968, 911 engine capacity increased to 2.2-litres and the bhp of the 6-cylinder power unit increased to 155.
Offered here is a 911T, a left-hand drive car, that left the Porsche works in Stuttgart in 1971 and, rust-free, was imported to the UK from Nevada, USA, some four years ago. Painted red with grey trim, the fixed head coupe has the 2.2 six motor, fed by triple Webers, the 5-speed manual transmission, sports steering wheel and factory alloys. When entered for the sale, 54,365 miles were displayed on the odometer.
The most desirable of all Porsches is the 911 and marque aficionados still rate the early coupes, like this one, as being the version to have. The model has been a winner on race track and rally stage and provides enormous driver satisfaction on the road.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
