Considered the Holy Grail by many a privateer Grand Prix competitor in period, demand for the 'over-the-counter' RG500 Series was such that Suzuki was able to pick and choose its customers. Introduced in 1980, just fourteen MK5 bikes were allocated to the UK. Sold to selected racing personnel for approximately £11,750, they were powered by the last of the non-stepped water-cooled square-fours. Displacing 495cc courtesy of its equal 54mm bore and stroke dimensions, this rotary disc valve induction unit was said to develop 110bhp @ 11,000rpm. Mated to a 'cassette-type' six-speed gearbox, it made for a singularly versatile track companion.
Finished in blue over white, this particular example is said to be in very good, original condition. Believed by the vendor to have been raced by Stan Woods, it rides on alloy wheels.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
