Lot details Registration No: SJA 73H Chassis No: KL59653 Mot Expiry: June 2014
Previously displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where even experts are said to have mistaken it for chassis M3/1105 (the original GT40 MKIII that was supplied new to world famous conductor Herbert Von Karajan), 'SJA 73H' is a wonderfully convincing evocation. Built by John Arnold of Revival Motorsport, the two-seater combines a suitably modified GTD chassis with a KVA MKIII body. Power comes courtesy of an Oselli-tuned 351ci 4V Ford Cleveland V8 that develops in excess of 350bhp, and drives through an uprated Renault 21T gearbox to driveshafts purpose-made by GKN. The interior's central gearchange, instruments, switches, seats, seat belts, chromed brass side windows and steering wheel are apparently exactly as they should be. Indeed the only major departure is that the evocation is to right-hand (rather than the original's left-hand drive) specification. The fast Ford rides on alloy-rimmed Borrani-style stainless spoke wire wheels and sports other such authentic details as BAC rear catches and Marchal lamps, while the suspension is deliberately free of rose joints in the interests of comfort and longevity. A stunning recreation which would enhance any car collection, the vendor assures us that 'SJA 73H' "drives very well and is very solid and rattle free unlike so many GT40 recreations".
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
