The Sovereign moniker has been applied to a number of luxury Daimler and Jaguar models over the years. The Daimler concerning us here was launched in 1966, based on the Jaguar 420, and readily differentiated from its Jaguar stablemate by the traditional Daimler fluted radiator grille. This eye-catching example was first registered on April 1st 1969, from when it remained in the same hands until purchased by the vendor in July 1983. Very little work was carried out prior to 1987 when it was laid up. Two years later it was stripped of paint and bodywork repairs begun, and between then and 2003 in excess of £15,000 was invested in bringing 'YUY 171G' up to scratch. This work included: new cylinder head gasket fitted and transmission overhauled; body repairs completed with new panels installed as required (plus a respray in Opalescent Blue); Dark Blue interior trim renovated or replaced; suspension overhauled and front brake callipers replaced; carburettor, radiator, alternator and distributor replaced or reconditioned; stainless steel exhaust fitted. The total mileage recorded is still only 51,000, and the car comes complete with receipts for the restoration and annual services, plus every MOT since 1983 - including one valid into May 2016.
