Lot details Registration No: UN-REG Chassis No: 55-674481 Mot Expiry: June 2006
Restyled by Dick Teague as part of the 'all-new' 1955 Packard range, the Clipper Custom wore a distinctive two-tone or 'zig-zag' paint scheme. As fresh underneath as on top, it featured an innovative torsion-bar suspension system that was interconnected front to rear and boasted a self-levelling function. Credited with 240hp and 350lbft of torque, its 352ci OHV V8 (one of the most powerful engines then in production) was allied to Packard's own dual range Ultramatic transmission.
Finished in turquoise over white with turquoise / green vinyl upholstery, this particular two-door coupe example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (electrical equipment, interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork) or "very good" (engine, wheels / tyres) condition. An ex-California car, it was reportedly with its previous lady keeper for thirty years. Entering the current ownership via her estate in 1986, it was shipped to the UK five years later. Said to be "duty paid" but not road registered in this country, its impressive specification includes: electric seats, electric windows, a push-button radio and variable wipers etc. Treated to a transmission overhaul, it is believed but not warranted to have covered 63,500 miles from new. Riding on whitewall tyres, this rare and exotic 'Yank Tank' is offered for sale with its original manufacturer's warranty (expired), handbook, C&E 386 form and MOT certificate valid until June 16th 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
