Introduced for the 1950 season, the Falcone was designed to appeal to sporting riders and was offered alongside the existing Astore model which catered for those seeking a touring machine and from which the Falcone was developed. Compared to the Astore the new model developed 23 bhp instead of 18.9 bhp, thanks, in part, to a higher compression ratio and larger carburettor, 6.5:1 instead of 5.5:1 and a 29mm Dell 'Orto carburettor instead of the Astore's 27mm instrument. The improvement in performance was matched by handsome looks, the Falcone looking lower and sleeker than its touring cousin. This was achieved in a number of ways, the Falcone utilised smaller mudguards and dispensed with the legshields fitted to the Astore. A more sporting riding position was achieved by moving the footrests rearwards. The new model quickly established itself as time the most desirable of the big Guzzi's, something which has not changed in the intervening 50 years.
When the Astore was dropped from the Moto Guzzi range in 1953 The Falcone Sport was joined by a touring variant, the Turismo which shared the "long legged" power delivery and stable handling for which the series are renowned. . Differences between the two variants were comparatively few, the Sport benefiting from 3.98:1 top gear ratio, the Tourismo's being 4.32:1, whilst the Turismo offered a more upright riding position. Recent revivals of events such as the Giro have resulted in demand for Falcone's increasing dramatically
The example offered dates from the first year of production and is presented to a very high standard throughout. The vendor, a capable engineer, describes the motorcycle as running well. A special fuel tank and an attractive "Dondolino" type rear mudguard add to the sporting character of the machine, complimenting the sporting riding position and alloy rims.
