Chevrolet's Corvette has been continuously developed to this day, the idea behind what has been one the greatest automobile success stories coming from General Motors' Head of Design, Harley Earl, a sports car enthusiast who sought to produce for his GM masters a rival to the Jaguar XK120. The first production Corvette rumbled off the Flint production line on 10 June 1953.
The vendor of this 1969-manufactured Corvette Stingray - a left-hand drive, two-door coupe with desirable T-roof facility, in white with black vinyl interior, and sitting on alloys - rates the current cosmetic and mechanical condition as being very good. The 7.4-litre Chevy V8 is reportedly in good order, too, as is the three-speed manual transmission, a full race sequential gearbox.
Other modifications include twin Garrett turbochargers, Zytec electronic programmable fuel injection and ignition, and remote oil and gearbox coolers. As a street legal drag racer, it should be good, claims the owner, for pulling 6000 in top and 165mph. MHX 59L would also appear to be absolutely ready to enjoy this season with the current MOT certificate and tax disc being valid until October and November respectively.
During the 1970s, we understand that this classic American was custom-painted and had the nickname `Night Hawk', under which identity it featured in a magazine article, a copy of which is available from the vendor. Then, during the 1980s and 1990s, it achieved competition success on the strip and also beat Jeremy Clarkson in a drag race which was televised on Top Gear, of which there is a video.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
