Lot details Registration No: 7043 PU Chassis No: TS813850 Mot Expiry: May 2007
Final evolution of the TR2/TR3 line (save for the American market TR3B), the TR3A was introduced in September 1957. Great fun to drive, its tough boxed section chassis featured independent coil and wishbone front suspension, a leaf sprung 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Fitted with a 1991cc four-cylinder ohv unit developing some 104bhp and 117lbft of torque, it was reputedly capable of 104mph.
Finished in Mallard Green with black vynide upholstery, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in "good" condition with regard to its enlarged 2138cc engine, four-speed plus overdrive manual gearbox, interior trim, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. An original RHD UK-supplied car, it is nevertheless said to have "competed in the classic car race at Macau on 20th November 1983 which was organised as a celebration of thirty years of motor racing on the Guia circuit" and to have been entered for a "1988 concours in Hong Kong". Reportedly treated to an engine rebuild in 1996 during which the unit's capacity was increased to 2138cc, the car also benefits from a brake servo, hardtop, soft top tonneau, sidescreens, jack and Thor hammer. While extras comprise: aero screens (mounts fitted), luggage rack, Moto-Lita wood / alloy steering wheel, fire extinguisher, seatbelts, chrome GB plate and enamel Union Jack badges. Since entering the current ownership in May 2002, the Triumph is understood to have had its front suspension totally rebuilt "with the correct trunnions, bushes, bolts, springs and new brake callipers". A well-equipped and subtly upgraded TR3A that is apparently "more than capable of coping with modern road conditions and speeds", 7043 PU is offered for sale with history file (including invoices from 1994 onwards totalling more than £13,500), original instruction book, workshop manual, sundry spares (original steering wheel, front grille, carburettor overhaul kit / air filters, wing mirrors etc) and MOT certificate valid until April 2007.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT certificate until May 2007.
