Lot details Registration No: SNJ 871 Chassis No: GHD87282 Mot Expiry: Oct 2004
The MGA stemmed from an aerodynamic sports car first seen competing at Le Mans in 1951. Such was the new MGA 1500's impact in the MG dealer showrooms in 1955 that over 13,000 were made in the first year of production. A closed fixed head coupe joined the open roadster from 1956 onwards.
Here is one of less than 2800 MGA MkI 1600 coupes built, the example being auctioned, an original UK-spec righthand drive car, leaving the Abingdon works in 1960. The registration is the original. The Irish vendor tells us that the fixed head was restored in the late 1980s and has done little mileage since. The history file is substantial, he says, with sundry invoices, dating certificate and handbook included.
The general condition of bodywork and blue paintwork is described as being very good, whilst the black interior is claimed to be good with MGB seats fitted. The 1.6-litre 4-cylinder motor is reportedly in excellent order and the 4-speed manual gearbox very good. The MOT is current until next October.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
