After trying a V6 engine in 1912, the Buick Motor Company of Flint, Michigan, brought out a conventional six in 1914. Initially, tourer bodywork was the only style available, though a roadster was added to the Michigan manufacturer's range in 1916, when the marque's first sedan, with 3670cc six underbonnet, also came to market. By the end of that year, Buick had produced and sold an impressive 124,834 vehicles, putting them into third place behind Ford and Willys-Overland. In 1924, all Buicks were sixes until the GM X cars of 1980.
The 1924-built Buick with 2-door coupe bodywork by Fisher crossing the block here was imported from New Zealand in 2000. According to the vendor, this American fixed head, which has the benefit of 4-wheel brakes, has proved to be a reliable and thoroughly useable classic. Rare with this coachwork, the fixed head is still in very original condition, he says, while the 255cu in engine did undergo some refurbishment during its time in Auckland.
The chassis is said to be currently sound, the body good and the blue over black paintwork, though faded, original. The beige cloth interior is described as being also original and in good condition. The 6-cylinder motor is reportedly in good order and the 3-speed manual gearbox also OK. The MOT test pass and Road Fund exempt tax disc will both be current until next August.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
