Increasingly stringent US impact and emission regs in what was Jaguar's largest and most vital foreign currency earning export market added weight and reduced performance on the E Type S2 4.2. The Coventry manufacturer was therefore forced to come up with a solution. Their totally new 5.3-litre 272bhp 12-cylinder power unit virtually filled the underbonnet area of a new, clearly much more powerful and, more importantly, a cleaner replacement S3 roadster and 2+2 coupe. The new E Type with its distinctive cross-hatch rad grille had power steering as standard, auto-shift and air-con being standard spec on the fixed head.
The vendor of this claimed to have been driven 48,200 miles from new in 1973 Series 3 E Type Jaguar with fixed head coupe bodywork, providing 2+2 accommodation, tells us that body and paintwork in yellow and black interior are well presented, and the 5.3-litre V12 engine and transmission are very good.
We understand that the history file contains Jaguar handbook and service booklet, various bills and photos charting work carried out, several old MOTs and a current test certificate to May of next year - and, following what was described as having been a full rebuild to concours standard, a 1989 valuation certificate for £30,000. A successful bidder might just be able to land this classic E Type for a considerable saving today!
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
