Lot details Registration No: MJH 854 Chassis No: BN611051402 Mot Expiry: June 2005
To create the Austin-Healey 100/6 in 1956, the British Motor Corporation uprated the 4-cylinder 100/4 with the 2.6-litre 6-cylinder BMC C Series engine and, catering for the 2+2 family man, lengthened the wheelbase by 2ins to provide accommodation for two kids behind the bucket seats. Happily, for those sportscar purists among us, a true 2-seater version was also offered, though relatively few appear to have been made and even fewer have survived to this day.
This Austin-Healey is one of those rare, strictly 2-seaters, an original righthand drive home market 100/6 sports made in 1959. Claimed to be the homologation model, with higher compression and disc brakes all round, it comes with British Motor Industry Heritage certificate confirming production dating and details. The tyres are said to be excellent, the brightwork, black trim, hood and tonneau all good. On file are numerous past MOT test certificates.
The 2639cc six is reportedly serviceable as is the 4-speed manual gearbox which has the benefit of the desirable overdrive, which is also said to be working well. Indeed, so confident is he of his Old English White painted sportscar being in full working order that the vendor intended to drive MJH 854 some eighty miles to the sale venue. With recently renewed MOT and a tax disc valid until next March, MJH 854 should therefore be absolutely ready for the next owner to drive away and enjoy.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
