Lot details Registration No: MG 2370 Chassis No: 6021031 Mot Expiry: May 2006
Introduced in 1933, the Lynx Tourer had much in common with its similarly rakish and elegant Kestrel Saloon sibling. Notably low-slung, both were four-seaters that placed their occupants between the front and rear axles. Powered by a 'sports' version of the Coventry marque's advanced 'twin-cam' four-cylinder 1087cc engine mated to four-speed manual transmission, the pair enjoyed a level of performance that belied their 9hp tax rating. Based around a ladder-frame chassis equipped with all round semi-elliptic leaf-sprung suspension and bias-adjustable drum brakes, they were known for their crisp handling too.
Finished in red with matching leather upholstery, this particular example has an unusual and possibly unique history. Owned by the same family from new until 1999, it apparently spent forty-nine of those sixty-six years laid-up in a barn. Purchased by the vendor from a Christie's auction on 1st November 1999, it has since been restored (reconditioned engine, re-trimmed interior etc). Reported to be in good condition with regard to its transmission, electrical equipment, chassis, bodywork and wheels / tyres, it is believed to have covered just 42,050 miles from new. Riding on smart wire wheels, this special Lynx is offered for sale with MOT certificate valid until May 2006 and historic class (free) road tax until May 2006.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
