1984 Daimler DS 420 Limousine

Lot details
Registration No: FIL 4118
Chassis No: SADDWATL3AC200501
Mot Expiry: Nov 2006

Famous for its royal patronage from the earliest days of motoring, Daimler stayed true to its roots by producing a new purpose built limousine model with the launch of the DS420 Limousine in 1968. Replacing the DR450 Limousine which had been heavily based on the Majestic Major, the new Limousine featured its own unique bodystyle built by Motor Panels and was based on the Jaguar 420G floorpan using the same 4235cc DOHC straight-six engine. Trimmed and finished by the Vanden Plas coachwork company (although this was transferred in house to Jaguar in later years) the DS420 remained in production in substantially unaltered form right into the 1990s and for many years was the quintessential limousine for dignitaries and the rich & famous alike.
The 1984 Daimler Limousine for sale here today is however something very special. Entrusted to specialist coachbuilders Auto Alternatives by the current owner in 2001 having been previously used by a funeral director, there are invoices on file for over £43,000 detailing work carried out in stretching the car by 24" and refurbishing the interior. The exhaustive list includes converting the front bench seat to two single seats; all new rear seating for six passengers in black leather with claret piping and matching claret carpets; integral mood lighting in the headlining; satellite navigation system built into the dashboard; 2 drinks refrigerators (one in the passenger compartment and one in the chauffeurs compartment) together with a third restocking fridge in the boot; park distance control sensors front and rear and rear view camera; Clifford alarm/immobiliser with glass tamper sensors; electric rear windows and tinted supplementary windows with chrome surrounds. However, the piece de resistance must be the entertainment system - a 12.1" high definition TFT flat screen monitor mounted in custom built leather/burr walnut cabinet (which also houses the drinks glasses), SonyPS2/multi region DVD player, Alpine CD/radio and 6 disc CD changer, MP3 music system and 4 speakers.
Having only 29,300 miles recorded from new which the vendor guarantees to be correct the car is described as having 'good' paintwork, bodywork and wheels/tyres with the engine and electrical equipment in 'good working order' whilst the interior as befitting the work carried out is 'excellent'. We are told that a reconditioned gearbox was fitted in September 2005 and a small amount of bodywork refettling to cure some bubbling on the wheelarches was carried out in July 2003. Brought out of 2 year storage in September 2005 it has been registered with the Public Carriage Office and can count amongst those who have hired it Burt Bacharach, Boy George and Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten! Mot'd until November 2006 with tax until the end of August this extraordinary limousine is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
