Lot details Registration No: GFX132D Chassis No: HBJ8L27569 Mot Expiry: Aug 2005
When it was first produced by the British Motor Corporation in 1959, the Austin-Healey 3000 with 2912cc six-cylinder engine was an updated version of their 2.6-litre 100/6, which, in turn, replaced the earlier 2.6-litre four-cylinder 100. The 3000 model became even more popular on both sides of the Atlantic as an open-top British sportscar.
The owner of this Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII first left the BMC factory in 1966. The vendor believes that it was first a righthand drive car which was exported to Canada, where it was converted to lefthand drive. A UK national working in Canada purchased the car and brought it back with him on his return in 1995. By now returned to righthand drive as per the original specification and with GFX 132D registration, it was acquired by the current owner in March 2004.
The chassis and body panels are claimed to be in good condition. The Colorado Red paintwork is said to be fair and the black leather only recently renewed. The 3-litre six motor is reportedly in excellent order and the four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive also good.
On file are a continuous run of MOT test certificates charting mileage from its return from Canada at 77,475 miles to 77,947 miles when last successfully tested at the beginning of August. Indeed, the 78,000 mileage displayed when entered is believed by the vendor to be the genuine total mileage for this car from new.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
