The 'slant-eyed' C-V8 was launched in October 1962 in place of the visually similar 541. Penned by Eric Neale in consultation with the Jensen brothers, it sported a fiberglass body equipped with a pair of aluminium doors. This was affixed to an advanced, twin-tube chassis designed by Kevin Beattie and powered by a 5.9-litre Chrysler V8 engine mated to a three-speed, column-operated Torqueflite automatic transmission. With 305 bhp and 395 lb ft of torque on tap, the newcomer was capable of over 130mph. It sported coil sprung independent front suspension, a limited slip differential for its live axle, four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. The MKII C-V8 introduced just a year later boasted still more performance, courtesy of Chrysler's legendary 330 bhp 6.3-litre V8. It also featured a range of changes to the bodywork and the addition of Selectaride 4-way adjustable rear dampers.
The RHD 1964 MKII model on offer was purchased by the vendor at the H&H's April 2007 sale, since when it has travelled a mere 500 miles - the total mileage from new is understood to be just 84,000. The coachwork is finished in distinctive Sun Bronze and the interior trimmed in contrasting red leather. 'CPX 605B' was Jensen's 1964 Earls Court Motor Show Car and its first owner was Sir Harold Pickering of Dolcis Shoes. The car is equipped with Goodridge brake and fuel lines, Lumention ignition, a stainless steel exhaust and is claimed to be one of only six C-V8s fitted with a stainless steel 'explosafe'-lined fuel tank. It reputedly enjoyed an engine overhaul by Ian Orford of Jensen Parts & Services some 10,500 miles ago. Other recent attention includes rejuvenation of the Selectaride dampers and some expert trimming. Once described as 'probably the best C-V8 MKII in the British Isles', the Jensen comes complete with an extensive history file and assorted concours certificates, cups and plaques including two JOC President's Cups.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
