The car manufacturers who went rallying - such as Audi, Lancia, Rover and Ford - all brought out Group B cars specifically so that their factory teams could compete in the World Rally Championship. Ford announced their Group B rally weapon in 1984, the RS200 being a mid-engined, 4-wheel drive coupe with lightweight panels in GRP, powered by a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine producing 150bhp in standard form. To qualify for this FIA road-going supercar category, the manufactures had to build 200 of their Group B car. Although the Boreham Competition Department produced the factory rally cars, Ford employed Reliant to assemble their required batch to be in compliance with the regulations.
When Group B was outlawed at the end of the 1986 season following competitor and spectator fatalities, Ford had not found buyers for all their RS200s and, after being trimmed out as road cars by Tickford, the balance were eventually sold for up to £50,000 apiece.
The 1989-manufactured RS200 being auctioned was purchased direct from Ford at Boreham with only 200 miles indicated. We understand that the car has been serviced once by Aston Martin Tickford, whilst the total mileage indicated when entered for the sale had only risen to 830. The entrant tells us that the condition of bodywork, interior and all mechanical components is all good.. The factory-supplied leather-bound manual and original sales invoice come with the car which, says the vendor, has been garaged in specialist storage facilities for the majority of the time.
Opportunities to acquire such a low mileage example of one of the Group B classics, virtually a brand new car too, occur very infrequently. The auctioning of this lot provides bidders with a rare chance to become an RS200 owner.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
