Jaguar introduced the Series III E-type, with V-12 5.3 litre engine in 1971 and this engine lifted the E-type from being a great sports car into the realms of supercar status. Its performance was on a par with contemporary cars from Europe but as usual with Jaguar, at a very competitive price.
The coupe offered here led an extraordinary life. It covered 59,000 miles with its first three owners up to 1979, but has only done a scant 1,000 since then. The last owner bought the car from a friend in 1979 and ran the car as his everyday transport until, in the winter of that year, he span the car on a patch of ice. The gyration was controlled and no damage was done, but he scared himself so much that he put the car away in his garage and, basically, forgot about it.
Earlier this year it was rescued from the same garage in the 'time warp' state you see it today. A scant 40 odd miles have been added to the cars odometer in getting an MOT, which it passed with little effort and it has receipts for £400 for recent work including a new carpet to the passenger side. It is an original and restored motorcar and an ideal basis for a concours project - the numbers all match and the VIN plates have never been touched. This car is ready to go albeit we would advise some careful recommissioning work before the car is put back into regular service.
Please note: There is no power steering on this vehicle.
