1970 Porsche 911 S

Sold for £21,938

(including buyers premium)

Lot details
Registration No: WRP146H
Chassis No: 9110300754
Mot Expiry: Aug 2010

This stunning left-hand drive 911S has been in the current owner's hands for the last six years. The car was imported into the UK from Italy in 2001 by early 911 specialists Francis Tuthill Ltd. The car was immediately sold to a well known motoring journalist who in turn sold the car to the current owner in 2003 (also a motoring journalist). The car has featured in Evo and Autocar magazines, as well as regularly appearing in Porsche GT magazine.

As can be seen from the photographs, `WRP 146H' has been fitted with 2.7 RS type rear wings and RS lightweight front and rear bumpers. Other non standard (for the year) parts include a later 915-type gearbox, four-piston front brake callipers and lightweight door panels (leather).

The current owner has used the car very regularly over the last six years including a return trip to Sicily and taking part in the Tour Britannia classic car rally. The car has been used virtually every day because that's what 911s are for.

While the car has been in the UK a considerable amount of work has been carried out on the car, always by Francis Tuthill. Over £20,000 has been spent on bodywork (£9,500 this year) to bring the car up to an excellent standard. Rot free early 911s are hard to find; WRP 146H is now sound and will provide many more years of fun without the worry of large bodywork bills hanging over its owner.

The later-type 2.4-litre circa 180bhp engine is strong, has never failed to start and doesn't leak oil. The only known mechanical issue with the car is a rather worn synchromesh on 2nd gear (the gear engages but requires a gentle touch).

The car has been weighed and comes out at 1089kg with fuel. This lovely 911S is a superb example that can be driven as a daily driver without worry. Alternatively, it could be the basis for a RS replica (straightforward as the cosmetic work is done) or high performance `special'.

All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.

You can collect your new pride and joy from our venue until 1pm the day following the sale or our partners are on hand to help arrange safe transportation:
