Built by Andy Duncan and William Longley in 1965 to cater for the newly introduced Formula Ford series, their initial Dulon LD3 was little more than a reworked Lotus 24 F1 car. However, its LD4 successor had the distinction of being one of the industry's first 'clean sheet' FF designs. Introduced in 1967, it morphed into the 1968 LD4B and 1969 LD4C before being supplanted by the 1970 LD9. Notably well-balanced, a derivative of this latter model piloted by Ian Taylor not only won the inaugural 1972 Formula Ford Festival but also took both that year's BOC and Daily Express Formula Ford Championships beating the likes of Titan, Lotus and Merlyn in the process. Equally polished, the 1973 MP15 (its new prefix letters signifying a change of ownership) gave Derek Lawrence victory in the Formula Ford Festival and title races.
Finished in white over blue, this particular example is described by the vendor as being in very good condition with regard to its 1600cc engine, chassis, Hewland 4-speed gearbox, electrical equipment, bodywork, paintwork and wheels / tyres. Reportedly "sold to South Africa and then re-imported", the Dulon apparently had its "engine and gearbox rebuilt" prior to recommencing UK racing. Said to have also benefited from a "new battery, tyres and shockers", the present owner of this "very tidy undamaged 'Classic' Formula Ford" believes that it might be the ex-Lawrence car on the basis that "this is chassis number 1/73" (though he stresses that this supposition has yet to be proven). Issued with a RAC MSA competition car logbook on August 4th 2005 for sprint and hillclimb usage, it is offered for sale with various spares including a "nosecone, four wheels and tyres".
