Retrospectively known as the Series 3, the revised version of the Aston Martin V8 phased-in during 1973 was a response to forthcoming US emission control regulations. Marking a switch from fuel-injection to quad Webers, the newcomer was visually distinguished by an enlarged air intake, elongated bonnet scoop and new rear window panel. Other improvements included a revamped 2+2 interior with revised seats and reorganised switchgear. Autocar magazine recorded 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds and 146mph flat out aboard a Series 3 V8 with automatic transmission. Only in production from July 1973 to December 1974 and from spring 1976 to October 1978, a mere 967 examples of the model are thought to have been made.
This right-hand drive 1973 Series 3 V8 is finished in Burnham Green with contrasting Black hide upholstery. It has just been recommissioned after long term storage - work that reportedly included a bare metal repaint of the bodywork that is now regarded by the vendor as "excellent and corrosion free". The interior was evidently renewed before the Aston was laid up and "remains like new". The vendor also classes the engine and automatic gearbox as "excellent" and says 'OWT 55M' would be welcomed within the AMOC and ideal for many of its events. The V8 is MOT'd until August 2013.
