Introduced in 1965, the Alpine V was the final version of Sunbeam's popular sports car range. Equipped with the Rootes Group's latest four-cylinder engine -a five-bearing crankshaft 1725cc unit rated at 92.5bhp - the new model proved more powerful and refined than its predecessors. Further benefiting from the adoption of negative earth electrics and an alternator, it was reputedly capable of over 100mph. Treated to some subtle internal / external cosmetic tweaking as well, it emerged boasting a crisper more modern look. Only produced for three years, the Alpine V was quietly dropped from the Sunbeam range in 1968.
Finished in blue with black vinyl upholstery, this particular Alpine V is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (engine, four-speed manual gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, wheels / tyres), "very good" (chassis) or "excellent" (bodywork, paintwork) order. Reportedly "imported from California as an excellent rust-free example", it has since been converted to right-hand drive. Said to be in "fantastic usable condition", it is believed but not warranted to have covered 88,660 miles from new. Riding on wire wheels, this pretty Sunbeam is offered for sale with "12 months" MOT certificate.
