Lot details Registration No: 576 VHU Chassis No: 824931D/N Mot Expiry: May 2007
The final iteration of the XK sportscar line and the last Jaguar to carry a separate chassis, the XK150 was introduced in May 1957. While its use of independent torsion bar front suspension, a 'live' leaf sprung rear axle and rack and pinion steering mirrored the practice of its XK140 predecessor the new model benefited from all round Dunlop disc brakes. Stylistically, it was brought up to date with less ostentatious curves and a larger, wrap-around single piece windscreen. The dashboard too was altered eschewing wood trim for padded leather. With the E-type still very much under development, Jaguar were keen to sustain the sporting reputation that their remarkable five Le Mans victories (1951, 1953, 1955, 1956 and 1957) had earned them. To this end, the XK150 could be had in both 3,442cc and 3,781cc guises and to normal or tuned 'S' specification. With power outputs ranging from 190bhp for the base 3.4 up to 265bhp for the ultimate 3.8S performance was always an XK150 strong point. Equipped with four-speed manual gearboxes as standard, even the 'slowest' versions were said to be good for over 130mph.
According to information supplied by the vendor, this magnificent XK150 is believed to have spent eleven years undergoing a "full ground up body off restoration to the highest standard". Said to have covered just "700 dry miles" since work was completed last year, it still boasts an "underside like brand new". Registered new in Bristol (or so its 'HU' registration number suffix would suggest), the Jaguar is fitted with both the sweet-revving 3442cc DOHC straight-six powerplant and desirable 'manual with overdrive' four-speed transmission. Finished in dark blue with contrasting red leather upholstery, its stunning appearance is highlighted by chrome wire wheels and twin spotlights. Further benefiting from a well detailed engine bay, wood-rimmed steering wheel, carpeted boot, hood bag and chrome luggage rack, this 'drophead gorgeous' XK150 looks every inch the classic 1950s British Sports Car.
PLEASE NOTE: This vehicle has an MOT certificate until May 2007.
We have been informed that the chassis number for this car decodes as a right hand drive XK150 Fixed Head Coupe. However, the presence of a suitably notated continuation (green) logbook in its history file suggests that the Jaguar has existed as a drophead coupe since at least 1971.
