Lot details Registration No: PBD143R Chassis No: LD41087A Mot Expiry: Aug 2013
Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering and driveline of that Saloon. The powerplant, though, was an all-new OHC V8 of 3000cc capacity, fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors. The newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970. However, once in the hands of customers there were quibbles over build quality and engine maladies. Though Triumph itself failed to fully resolve the issues, independent specialists have, and well sorted Stags are now the rival to the Mercedes-Benz SL they were always intended to be.
This right-hand drive example hails from 1976 and sports Blue bodywork allied to Black upholstery. It was apparently converted from automatic to manual in December 1999 by Hart Racing, had an alarm added in May 2001 and a full respray from the original Yellow to current Blue, plus a new mohair hood, during July 2010. The vendor believes but does not warrant the indicated mileage of 57,586 to be genuine and considers the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, V8 engine and overdrive gearbox to all be in "good" condition. 'PBD 143R' comes complete with numerous receipts and an MOT valid until August 2013.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
