The MkI Jaguar sports saloon caused quite a stir in 1956. For the so much more compact, lighter Jag of unitary construction, rather than the previous method of construction consisting of separate chassis and body, performed well and yet was no poor relation in terms of internal comfort. Above all, the MkI was fun to drive, even more so when the 3.4 joined the 2483cc 2.4 in 1957, although the smaller capacity six was based on the already legendary XK motor which powered the legendary XK120 of 1951-55.
Having originally left Jaguar's Coventry factory in 1957, this MkI 2.4, a righthand drive four-door saloon with all numbers still matching and the desirable four-speed manual gearbox enhanced with overdrive, has been in receipt of a freshly executed ground-up restoration and only recently repatriated to the UK. As well as a bare metal repaint in the original British Racing Green, the interior has received a full MCT trim kit in suede green leather, all to original specification.
Since all the work was carried out, the vendor tells us that the car has only done around fifty miles, the current cosmetic and mechanical condition being described as excellent. By auction day, we understand that the car is likely to have been successfully MOT tested for the next twelve months as well as UK registered again. On file are photos recording the restoration work as well as a Heritage certificate confirming dating and manufacturing details.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
