The Austin Landaulette is the archetypal London taxicab of the 1930's and Austin used the very dependable side-valve engined 12/4, derived from the Heavy series, as a basis of their first London taxicab. This model went on to dominate the market and most of them enjoyed lengthy careers as they were built from only the highest quality materials.
The rare Landaulette we have on offer for you today has the folding top to the rear compartment in the 'flashlot' series and features a sloping enamel radiator shell, artillery wheels, a roof luggage rack and more importantly the taximeter and fare tables. It is finished in blue and black livery and has excellent upholstery both to the semi-open drivers cab and the rear passenger accommodation.
It was housed in a museum in Canada for over 25 years and was returned to England and fully rebuilt in 1998 and over the last five years in the present ownership it has been used very successfully as a wedding car. It is a charming and outstanding example of this rare and useable vehicle and one that can be put to work immediately as it has been on many occassion at the Goodwood Revival, where it fits in perfectly.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
