Debuting alongside Jaguar's superbly glamorous XK120 at the 1948 London Motor Show, the Morris Minor was somewhat overshadowed. An exceptionally advanced design, the Minor was the brainchild of Sir Alec Issigonis. With a monocoque chassis, independent torsion-bar front suspension, all-round hydraulic drum brakes and rack and pinion steering the model possessed excellent handling. more than 1.6 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1972 in three series: the MM (1948 to 1953), the Series II (1952 to 1956), and the 1000 series (1956 to 1971).
In the 1920s, commanding a 41 per cent market share, Morris Motors of Cowley were the UK's number one car maker. One of the most enduring of our postwar classics has been the Alec Issigonis engineered Morris Minor. The great man's basic concept and straightforward technical layout was spot-on, Minors not only being an economic proposition for the Morris bean counters to sanction their manufacturer, but also because private punters could afford to buy and run them in very large numbers over many years with relatively easy to achieve upgrades.
Presented in Grey with a contrasting blue and cream interior, 787 XPG was first registered in 1962 and is accompanied with a document from a previous owner describing the history of the vehicle. 787 XPG is understood to have been purchased second hand by a Mr William Williams in 1968 from Keeler Motor Group, Wembley. After 11 years motoring, the car was then taken off the road between 1979-1980 and was left under a car port until 2009, where it was purchased with the intention of restoring, before exchanging hands again in 2010, where it was restored over the subsequent two years and once again changed hands. In January 2013, the vehicle received a replacement gearbox, a suspension overhaul and replacement differential in August 2015 and a replacement engine that same year. In 2016, the woodwork was refurbished and treated and in 2017 both a replacement stainless steel manifold and windscreen.
787 XPG was acquired by its current owner in November 2017 and has since benefitted from the gearbox being reconditioned and a replacement clutch c. 2 years ago, 2 replacement chassis sections, a replacement head gasket, rear brake overhaul and replacement bearings on the driveshaft. The odometer currently displays 74,164 miles, but has been replaced on more than one occasion. 787 XPG Also comes accompanied with two replacement pre-painted front wings, a car cover and a selection of paperwork. Worth noting is that the vehicle also comes accompanied with an MOT certificate valid until 15 September 2021 and that the V5 document shows the car as Blue with Grey as a previous colour.
