Model Background:
Introduced in 2002, the Ferrari 575M Maranello built on the success of its 550 Maranello predecessor. The ‘M’ in the newcomer’s nomenclature stood for Modificata (or Modified) and signified major advances in braking, performance, weight distribution, suspension and aerodynamic efficiency. An unstoppable force in Formula 1 at the time, Ferrari offered its improved flagship model with a choice of six-speed manual or six-speed electro-hydraulic F1 transmission (the latter capable of shifting in 200 milliseconds). Powered by an enlarged 5748cc DOHC 48-valve normally aspirated V12 engine developing 508bhp and 434lbft, the 575M Maranello could reputedly sprint from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and on to 202mph (though, the manual versions were fractionally slower). Styled by Lorenzo Ramaciotti at Pininfarina, the two-seater was altogether more discrete and elegant than most 200mph supercars. Surprisingly compliant thanks to its computer controlled adaptive suspension, it was the perfect car for dashing through Europe - Monte Carlo one weekend, Rome the next and could accommodate at least a set of overnight bags (or a full set of golf clubs). Though, those customers looking for a more sporting edge could specify the highly regarded Fiorano Handling Package which enhanced the 575M Maranello’s chassis dynamics yet further. Of the 2,056 examples produced, just 182 were supplied new to the UK with F1 transmission.
