On offer here is a 1934-built Raleigh Safety Seven, which, having been previously belonged to his late father-in-law, has been in the ownership of the vendor's family since 1946. When acquired 57 years ago, although the bodywork had been damaged in the blitz in Birmingham, the vehicle was found to be mechanically sound. Following repairs to the body, the Raleigh served well as everyday transport. Since the vendor took over the reins in 1981, the car has been a regular participant at local events and has always generated much interest, particularly the 742cc v-twin, which was Raleigh's own engine.
Although last MOTd and taxed in 1998, today the open bodywork, which provides accommodation for four, is said to be in good condition as is, for its age, the red over maroon paintwork, though apparently the driver's seat does require reupholstering. The chassis, engine, 6-volt electrics and transmission, three forward gears and reverse, are all reportedly in good order. The 46,600 miles displayed may not be the genuine total as no record of the total mileage driven has been recorded.
Included with this lot are some original leaflets for the vehicle, which have been framed to preserve them. In addition, the vendor advises us that numerous spare parts are also for sale should they be required by the buyer of this extremely rare item and may be collected from Shropshire afterwards.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not had this vehicle running.
