Lot 33 - 1979 MG B GT

1979 MG B GT

Estimated at £4,000 - £5,000

Lot details
Registration No: HLL600V
Chassis No: GHD5-491736G
Mot Expiry: Sept 2007

The MG B is and always has been a very popular car. With sales of more than 500,000 during its eighteen year production run, it outlasted and outsold that other icon of 1960s British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type. Introduced in 1965, some three years after its roadster sister, the GT was an altogether more practical proposition. Capable of year round use, it also boasted greater interior space and more relaxed high speed cruising. An enjoyable drive with a surprisingly modern feel thanks to its capable chassis and rack and pinion steering, it represents one of the most inexpensive ways to enjoy classic motoring.
Finished in black with grey / black cloth upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "very good" (1798cc engine, four-speed manual plus overdrive gearbox, electrical equipment), "excellent / original" (interior trim) or "excellent" (underside, bodywork, paintwork) condition. Reputedly a former concours entrant, 'HLL 600V' is said to have covered just 25,150 miles from new. Treated to "a new brake cylinder, heater valve, fanbelt, battery and rebuilt front hubs" shortly after entering the current ownership in December 1999, the MG has since proven itself to be "utterly reliable" covering some 5,000 trouble-free miles during the last seven years. While, more recent work has seen it benefit from a fresh battery (May 2006) and new set of Pirelli Cinturatos (in place of what may well have been its original factory-fitted Dunlop SP41s). Riding on wire wheels, this highly presentable MG B GT is offered for sale with history file (including numerous old MOT certificates supporting the low mileage), current MOT certificate valid until September 27th 2007 and road tax until November 2006.
