Lot details Registration No: CBZ 736 Chassis No: WDB1260442A469086 Mot Expiry: June 2008
Introduced in 1981, two years after its saloon sibling, the W126 S-class coupe was a singularly elegant design. Styled by Bruno Sacco, the two-door, pillarless construction did little to compromise interior space. Intended as a four-seater transcontinental express, its sleek silhouette hid all round independent suspension, disc brakes, power assisted steering and a range of potent V8 engines mated to automatic transmission. Top of the launch range, the 500SEC was continuously updated gaining Bosch KE-jetronic fuel injection in 1985. Developing a quoted 245bhp and 286lbft of torque, the 4973cc SOHC V8 was reportedly capable of propelling the super coupe to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and onto a 146mph top speed.
Finished in gold with beige velour upholstery, this particular example is variously described by the vendor as being in "good" (interior trim, chassis, bodywork, paintwork, wheels / tyres) or "A1" (engine, automatic transmission, electrical equipment) condition. Owned by a Mercedes Club member of 20 years standing, 'CBZ 736' is apparently "a well known car at the shows". Benefiting from a full service history that substantiates its recorded mileage of 123,000, the coupe is said to "drive superbly". Summed up by the seller as "a very sought after yet usable classic", this handsome Mercedes is offered for sale with the aforementioned cherished number plate and service history as well as a MOT certificate valid until June 2008.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
