We at H&H like a car related challenge and certainly the identification of this particular car has had our collective brains in the office taxed for some time now. The bodyshell would appear to have originally been that of a GTM, a fact supported by a GTM badge on the dashboard. The GTM (an abbreviated form of 'Grand Touring Mini') is a pretty 2-seater mid-engined kit car which was originally launched in 1966 as the Cox GTM. Initially using Mini subframes and mechanicals together with a unique rear suspension and gear linkage, the GTM is still in production today in fundamentally the same form despite several changes of ownership. Currently the GTM is manufactured by Primo Designs.
However, the modifications made to the basic design in this particular example are interesting to say the least. Very possibly designed specifically with racing in mind (witness the racing number decals to the doors) the original fibreglass monocoque body is now mounted upon a substantial looking spaceframe chassis of unknown origin and the front wings have been flared substantially. Mounted amidships is a 1995cc Lancia twin-cam engine from which we are told that the head has been removed. Currently showing 'Q' plates, the car does not have a V5 registration document. Requiring full restoration, although looking substantially complete, this interesting and possibly unique 'special' should provide a very different and affordable entry into motor racing once restored.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
