The Mercedes of 1901 was the first truly modern car from an engineering point of view and Benz was the first volume manufacturer so the combination of the two was always going to be formidable and this took place in 1926. They built magnificent sports racing cars alongside mundane machines but after the war the firm expanded through offering a wide range of saloons.
We tend not to offer many cars of this era, but the 280GE estate or 'G' Wagon as it was known was the Mercedes-Benz answer to the world-wide phenomenal increase in the use of the 4x4. This particular example dates from 1985 and is in very good condition throughout and has the distinction of only having a mere three owners from new. So what I hear you saying - it's just that the first one was Lord Hesketh with the second owner being the recently deceased film producer Stanley Kubrick who was best known for the banned film 'A Clockwork Orange'.
A long wheelbase model with seven seats and sheep skin over rugs we believe that the mileage at 104,620 is correct and is currently tested and taxed ready to drive away from today's sale.
All successful bids must be paid in full by midday the day after the auction at the latest.
