According to its accompanying Heritage Certificate, this exceedingly handsome righthand drive Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1 is a home market example that was supplied new by Sam Robbins Ltd of Rugby in April 1955. Its factory fitted extras numbered a heater and laminated windscreen. At that stage the car was Healey Blue all over. The vendor purchased it in England in 2002 and exported it to Germany where he now lives - hence the German registration of 'MYK AV55H'. In the last two years the Healey has been treated to a comprehensive restoration at considerable cost. The numerous new parts fitted include: wiring loom and other electrics; high-performance aluminium radiator; performance oil cooler; electric fan with thermostat; high-performance starter motor; water pump; lead-free alloy cylinder head; SU H6 carburettors; starter solenoid; gearbox; overdrive unit; Healey 3000 brake servo; battery; motorsport specification cut-off switch; laminated windscreen; heater; and mohair tonneau cover. The 2660cc engine was completely reconditioned by Total Performance Germany, the brakes and suspension systems fully overhauled with many new parts, and a reconditioned alternator installed.
The restored shell was finished in the classic combination of Healey Blue over Old English White and the interior retrimmed in leather-look Black vinyl. The many extras include a pair of Lucas spot lights, uprated silver-painted wire wheels, leather bonnet strap, alloy engine rocker cover and wood-rim steering wheel. Unsurprisingly the vendor now classifies the bodywork, paintwork, four-cylinder engine and three-speed manual gearbox as 'excellent' and the interior trim as 'very good'. He is now offering the 'Big' Healey complete with the aforementioned Heritage Certificate and appropriate German paperwork. The odometer currently registers an unwarranted 69,000 miles. There is a strong market for good examples of the 'Big' Healey - the car that stole the London Motor show of 1952 - and this matching numbers example should excite plenty of interest.
